A residential care home in Redhill has been placed into special measures.

Ambleside Lodge, which has been rated as inadequate by the care quality commission, provides personal care for autistic people and people with a learning disability.

The service has now been placed in special measures and the CQC has issued three warning notices to focus the provider’s attention on making rapid and widespread improvements to how they are providing safe care and treatment and managing the service. Services in special measures are kept under review by CQC to keep people safe and re-inspected to ensure the improvements are made.

Inspectors found several issues, including that incidents weren’t monitored sufficiently to help staff learn from them to prevent reoccurrences.

They also found that people's communication plans weren’t consistently followed by staff and guidance from healthcare professionals, to keep people safe, wasn’t always followed.

However, the inspectors noted that staff supervision has been put in place by the new manager and that people's privacy was respected.

"There were some issues around staffing."

Amy Jupp covers Surrey for the Care Quality Commission - she said that "there were some issues around staffing, and not necessarily that there weren't enough staff but that the management hadn't deployed or put staff in place in a way that meant people were best used and therefore people didn't get the support they'd need."

A spokesperson for Achieve Together which oversees the home said they are "wholeheartedly committed" to providing excellent support and have taken the concerns "very seriously".

The spokesperson said: “The people we support expect and deserve a very high standard of provision. We recognise that these standards were not met at the time of inspection and apologise to those we support and their families.

"We are wholeheartedly committed to providing excellent support."

“We are wholeheartedly committed to providing excellent support and take the concerns raised very seriously. Since the inspection, we have been working closely with those we support, their families, the CQC and Surrey County Council to implement measures that ensure immediate and sustained change.

“Following the implementation of these measures, we are confident that significant progress has been made since the time of the inspection.”
