Research reveals 56% of people in Woking experienced constant noise in ears
Symptoms of tinnitus include buzzing, roaring and hissing in ears.
New research has found that the 56% of people who live in Woking have experienced constant noise in their ears.
These noises include buzzing, ringing, whistling and humming - and are often symptoms of a condition called Tinnitus.
However, the study commissioned by Bayfields Opticians and Audiologists found that just 16% of respondents have been seen by an audiologist.
It has also been revealed that the demographic that is most likely to be impacted is 18-24 year olds, with 76% of this group admitting to having experienced the symptoms.
"Turning the volume down on everyday activities can have a real impact on ear health."
Rob Ormerod, who's the audiology director at Bayfields Opticians and Audiologists, said: "It's a really high number, and the prevalence of tinnitus is surprisingly high. that's not massively outside the national average, it's within one or two percent so there's nothing that's specific to Woking.
"But it is a really really high number of people who experience tinnitus in their lifetimes."
Rob went on to say: "so simply turning the volume down on everyday activities can have a real impact on ear health in general, particularly prevention of tinnitus. Including limiting the length of time you're exposed to loud sounds, investing in hearing protection devices such as earplugs and ear defenders.
"And keeping thenm on your person for when you really need them."
