A prolific burglar from Leatherhead who preyed on vulnerable women has been sentenced to over 3 years behind bars.

Frank Smith, 27, from Rutland Close, was jailed last Friday at Guildford Crown Court, after pleading guilty to over 19 offences last year.

Victims said that they were left "traumatised and anxious" after being targeted by Smith.

One woman, who had her house burgled by Smith, said that "It is very difficult to put across in words how devastating it has been for me, and my family, to suffer such a violation of our home, peace of mind and family life."

Detective Constable Sam Wightman, who led the investigation, said that "Smith is a serial offender and over time, escalated from opportunistic acquisitive crime, to targeted burglaries and fraud.

"He has caused untold distress to his victims leaving them feeling unsafe in their own homes and costing them thousands because of the way he preyed on their vulnerabilities. This case has involved a lot of hard work and tenacity from officers across several units to track down the evidence needed to link these offences to one person and, because of this work, Smith is now where he deserves to be - behind bars.”
