Prime Minister visits the University Of Surrey
Rishi Sunak met staff and students from the School of Health Sciences, alongside Guildford MP Angela Richardson
The Prime Minister visited the University of Surrey this morning (Tuesday 30th November), alongside Guildford MP Angela Richardson.
During their visit, the Prime Minister and Ms Richardson met nursing students and staff from the School of Health Sciences, where they observed practical lessons taking place. They also toured a unique immersive simulation suite which digitally replicates different healthcare settings.
The Prime Minister also took the time to personally speak to Surrey’s students to learn more about their journey in becoming nurses and why they chose to pursue the profession.
Speaking to Greatest Hits Radio after the visit, Mr Sunak said: "Talking to student nurses here was fantastic, they're an inspiring bunch... and what's being delivered at this university is absolutely first rate."
"I'm here to recognise the fact that today the government on its manifesto promise to recruit and retain an extra 50,000 nurses for our NHS.
I was delighted to talk to student nurses that are being trained here... I was also able to say thank you them because what they do is incredible."
Professor G Q Max Lu, President and Vice-Chancellor, of the University of Surrey, said:
