Plans have been revealed for a £50 million technology centre in Surrey Heath for supercar company the Gordon Murray Group.

The engineering and design firm says it will also establish its new global headquarters at the 54 acre site in Windlesham - and will move there from its current site in Shalford once it is ready.

The 130,000 square foot facility - including three buildings- will house its automotive design and engineering, as well as research and development.

It will also be used for research and development, sales and marketing, and a heritage centre.

The announcement comes soon after the launch of its T-50 supercar - which will still be manufactured at its centre in Dunsfold.

The company says the investment will see more than 100 new highly-skilled jobs created.

Chairman of the Group, Professor Gordon Murray, described it as "a major investment and a huge step forward for the Gordon Murray Group, as we gather momentum for the next phase of our business and our brands, spearheaded by the all-new T.50 supercar."

Mr Murray, who is a Surrey resident, said:

"On a personal note, I have lived and worked in Surrey for over 50 years and we look forward to working with the Surrey Heath Borough Council and the local communities to integrate our business into the borough and to sensitively develop this site which as so much potential."

MP for Surrey Heath, Michael Gove, described it as "a highly respected business, globally renowned for design and technology", and said he is "especially pleased that this will bring a number of highly-skilled new jobs to Windlesham."

Surrey Heath Leader Alan McClafferty said changes to the site are still subject to planning - but he said they are "delighted" that the engineering group is moving to the borough:

" They are a local firm with a strong family ethos, who, despite the current global pandemic are moving forward with these exciting plans for their business."
