People who own Rolex watches are being urged to be careful with Surrey Police warning of a spate of thefts since the summer.

The force say they've had eight separate reports since July. In each case the victim was distracted before the watch was slipped from their wrist.

In one incident a victim was approached by someone claiming to represent a charity.

Officers in Surrey think the thefts are linked to organised crime, with reports of it also happened in Hampshire and Dorset.

T/DCI Dave Bentley, if Surrey Police said:

“Criminals are targeting preying upon the good nature of their victims and using distraction techniques to slip the watch right off their wrist. These watches are often of significant financial and sentimental value.

"We are aware of similar offences reported to other police forces over the past few months, and it is possible that the same suspects are responsible for the thefts we are seeing now in West Surrey.

"We are hard at work trying to identify the suspects, but we ask you to be vigilant while we continue our investigation."
