Police officer assaulted in Ash after reported lockdown breach
Surrey Police had received reports a party was taking place
A man has been charged with assaulting a police officer following a reported lockdown breach in Ash.
Surrey Police said they had received a report via social media of a party at a property in Hammersley Road on Saturday (9 January).
The force said that when officers knocked at the door at around 9pm, the occupants were unable to explain how many people were at the property and the relationships between them.
One of the occupants is said to have become aggressive and was arrested on suspicion of breaching coronavirus laws.
In the process of attempting to avoid being arrested, an officer was pushed over and assaulted.
The officer received a minor injury to his finger, but is expected to be back on duty on his next shift.
The man was taken to custody and later charged with assaulting a police officer in the execution of his duty, and offences under the covid-19 legislation.
He has been released on bail. Fixed Penalty Notices were issued against the other people present within the property.
