Police investigate suspected disability hate crime in Haslemere supermarket car park

Police are appealing for witnesses following a report of a hate crime incident in Haslemere.

Officers were made aware of a report of a hate crime that took place in the Tesco superstore car park in Haslemere at around 10.30am on Tuesday, 5 October.

The victim left the shop and as she walked past a blue BMW, the car’s horn was repeatedly beeped.

A woman inside the vehicle became verbally abusive, using gestures and hate related language linked to the victim’s disability.

Officers believe there were a total of four women inside the vehicle at the time of the incident.

In a statement Surrey Police said: “We would like to speak to anyone who might have witnessed this, including a man who we have identified as walking near to the vehicle when the incident happened.

“The man is described as White, around the age of 60, and approximately 5’8” in height. He was wearing blue jeans, a dark grey jumper and had glasses.

“If you have any information which could help, please contact us quoting crime reference number PR/45210105054 via 101.”
