Plans to improve journey times for vehicles travelling in a busy junction in North East Hampshire have been given the go ahead.

The £2 million Hampshire County Council scheme for the A30/A327 Hartford Bridge Flats Junction on Blackbushes Road in Hook, near Blackbushe Airport, aims to ease pressure in the area - reducing traffic movements along the secondary link to the M3.

A fourth arm to the existing roundabout, which lies between could also be built.

At his recent decision day Councillor Rob Humby, Deputy Leader of Hampshire County Council and Executive Member for Economy, Transport and Environment, gave the thumbs up for the design approach and for the Council to seek planning permission for a fourth arm on the roundabout.

Cllr Humby said: "The plans, once implemented, would mean that traffic wishing to travel southbound on Blackbushes Road from the A327 and the A30 eastbound would no longer need to divert east along the A30 and U-turn at the A30 Blackbushe Roundabout.

"This would alleviate pressure on the adjacent junction and reduce traffic movements along this important secondary link to the M3 as well as enhancing safety."

The scheme will cost approximately £2,121,000. It is planned that this will be funded with £500,000 from Local Transport Funding and the remaining £1,621,000 will be funded by existing developer contributions.
