Planning permission has been granted to progress the £2.9 million Fleet Pond Corridor project, with plans to start this Autumn.

The project, managed by Hart District Council, aims to “create a more connected environment that will improve walking and cycling links to Fleet’s railway station”.

Cllr David Neighbour, Leader of Hart District Council, said: “I’m delighted that we’ve got the green light to go ahead with this project.

“The path that is being improved runs adjacent to the train station car park. It is a high traffic area and is currently not sufficient to safely cope with the large amount of footfall and mixed user group activity.”

He added: “The proposed works intends to widen the path considerably, making travel for pedestrians significantly easier and safer. It is important to remember that works on site will start in Autumn 2021 and there will be significant diversions whilst these improvements take place.”

Footpath widening and a new boat slipway, at Boat House corner, is phase one of works to be delivered over the next two years.

Improvements to the access road and Fleet Pond car park will be phase two, followed by a new pedestrian crossing and footpath on the A3013 in phase three.

Phases two and three are set to be completed by Spring 2023.
