Children across the county have raised over £82,000 for local hospice care through the annual Phyliss Tuckwell Christmas run.

The run saw almost 11,000 children from 58 schools complete sponsored runs around playgrounds and parks wearing Christmassy headwear.

Charli Springle is the community fundraising manager for the hospice, she told us the money that was being raised is invaluable

"So about 80,000 can cover around a month's worth of services from our living well services and our day services for our patients.

So that can cover different workshops, creative programmes, anything that can support them to manage their symptoms, remain as independent as possible for as long as possible.

So for a whole month of services, there are so many different patients that will be coming in for all those different programmes on a daily basis. So yeah, it's an amazing amount of money to raise to cover all of that"

Charli added that due to the pressure for fundraising on the hospice, the community is vital to helping the hospice keep up its services

"We have to raise over £13.2 million a year and our community is imperative in helping us raise that. So schools, individuals, companies, trusts, they're so, so important."

Later this year in Spring, the hospice told us they were looking forward to opening their new Hospice in Farnham.
