Phyllis Tuckwell Hospice Care "Light Up A Life" to be livestreamed in front of Guildford Cathedral
Coronavirus restrictions means people can only take part virtually tonight
Last updated 7th Dec 2020
The names of lost loved ones being remembered this year will be projected on to Guildford Cathedral later as part of a Surrey charity's annual Christmas service.
Phyllis Tuckwell Hospice Care is hosting its traditional Light Up a Life event there tonight (7 December), instead of at their Farnham premises, due to coronavirus restrictions.
It will be live streamed from in front of the Cathedral, from 730pm.
A giant Christmas tree will also be projected onto the front of it - in place of the usual Hospice Christmas tree - and the tree's lights 'switched on' in memory of all those who have died.
The service will include carols and prayers as usual, and a chorister who will sing 'Silent Night'.
15 year old Ruby Skilbeck is a finalist in the BBC's Young Chorister of the Year 2020, which will be featured in Songs of Praise on BBC 1 on 6th December.
You can watch the service live at www.pth.org.uk/lualservice2020 and it will also be recorded, so it can be watched at a later date.
"We are so pleased that we are still able to hold our Light up a Life service this year, and are very grateful to Guildford Cathedral for hosting this special and poignant virtual event for us, and to Ruby for kindly singing for us," said Ruth Masters at Phyllis Tuckwell.
"We hope that on the evening of 7th December, people across our community will join with us online, and take a moment to reflect and remember with fondness all those we have loved but who are sadly no longer with us."
To keep everyone safe, Phyllis Tuckwell says there will be no access for visitors at the cathedral.
However, people can go there on the evenings of Tuesday 8th or Wednesday 9th December, when it will be lit up again between 5pm and 10.30pm.
Anyone who would like to remember a loved one - whether they were cared for by Phyllis Tuckwell or not - is invited to watch the service.
You can also visit the charity's Light up a Life website at www.pth.org.uk/lual where you can dedicate a light on their virtual night sky in memory of a loved one.
