Farnham-based Phyllis Tuckwell Hospice Care taking part in Captain Sir Tom Moore challenge
The fundraising initiative is being held around the country this bank holiday weekend
One of Surrey and North East Hampshire's most well known local charities is taking part in this weekend's Captain Sir Tom Moore challenge.
Phyllis Tuckwell Hospice Care, based in Farnham, have invited supporters to get involved in a challenge based around the number 100, to raise money for the charity.
Events are being held around the country during the late NHS fundraiser's birthday weekend - during which he would have turned 101.
It starts today (30 April) and ends on Monday (3 May).
Following Captain Tom's death in February, his family pledged to celebrate his life with an event that everyone could be involved in.
Participants have to think up a challenge based around the number 100, and either get sponsored to do it or make a donation to Phyllis Tuckwell directly.
You could choose to walk 100 steps, run 100 metres, score 100 goals, bake 100 cakes, climb 100 stairs, hop 100 laps of your garden, build 100 sandcastles, write a 100-word poem, flip 100 pancakes - anything at all!
The charity says it would welcome the funds - like many other charities, it has been hugely impacted by the Covid pandemic, with lockdowns and restrictions forcing it to cancel many of its events and close its shops for a time, resulting in a huge loss of fundraising income.
Captain Tom's daughter, Hannah Ingram-Moore, said: "We are so grateful for the incredible support we have received since my father started his record-breaking fundraising walk and that his message of hope was shared with the world.
"Captain Tom was very proud to be able to leave behind the growing legacy of his Foundation.
"We know he would love the idea of inviting everyone to get involved and share their Captain Tom 100 so that together we can ensure 'Tomorrow will be a good day'.
"We look forward to celebrating with you on what would have been his 101st birthday weekend - it's going to be fun!"
Phyllis Tuckwell's Community Fundraiser Samantha West said: "We're thrilled to be part of the Captain Tom 100 challenge, and we hope everyone has a great time thinking up and taking on their 100 challenge.
"Don't forget to share your 100 on social media, using #CaptainTom100."
