Photography project launched to celebrate Aldershot's Nepali community

Rushmoor Borough Council is inviting members of the Nepali community to share their personal stories as part of a new photography project aimed at celebrating local culture.

Local professional photographer, Shaun Jackson, will be capturing histories, cultural traditions, stories, thoughts, and ambitions for the future from local residents and businesses.

These stories will then be shared in a new outdoor photo gallery on Union Street in Aldershot later this summer.

Residents and businesses are invited to take part in a number of ways throughout July.

This includes picking up a form from the Karuna Coffee House in Wellington Street, Aldershot or from representatives of the Greater Rushmoor Nepali Community. Alternatively, Shaun can be emailed directly.

To get involved you need to email your ideas over by the end of July.

Rushmoor Borough Council’s Cabinet member for Planning and Economy, Councillor Marina Munro, said: ”I would encourage Nepali members of the community to come forward so we can record something of their culture and traditions and hopes for the future of their lives in Rushmoor – it really will be fascinating to see.

"This is a really exciting project and I very much looking forward to the gallery going up later in the summer.”
