Surrey pancake enthusiasts are preparing for 'flippin fantastic' day - as the great pancake race returns to two locations in the area.

These events are for kids and adults alike, and involve flipping a pancake and running to a finish line, in celebration of Pancake Day.

Woking's annual pancake race takes place at noon in Jubilee Square.

Their event has the theme of 'love' - where fancy dress is encouraged.

The event is organised by Woking Shopmobility to raise funds for the Charity, which provides mobility scooters and power chairs to access Woking's shops, theatres, cinemas and restaurants.

The other event taking place is called the Great Guildford Pancake Races.

This is taking place this morning from 11am, put together by local organisations The Charlottesville Trust and The Spike.

Funds raised from this charity event - which promises a race with people dressed in mascot costumes - will be going to Guildford Street Angels.

John Redpath from The Charlotteville Trust - who's organising today's Guildford event - said:

"Originally, the tradition goes back to Olney in Buckinghamshire in 1445.

"A lady was late preparing pancakes on the way to confession, and ran their tossing a pancake in a pan.

"Now many, many years later we're running that in Guildford but probably a lot safer.

"We have things called 'tossing-monitors' who make sure you stop and toss the pan so you don't speed up and trip on the cobbles or something like that."
