The Guilford Pancake Race returns for 2025

The Pancake Race celebrates it's 20th anniversary this year.

Today marks the 20th year of Guilford's Pancake Day Race.

This years course is approximately 50m in-between in the upper end of Guildford High Street between the Guildhall and Holy Trinity Church.

The first race held back in 2005 raised money for what was then No. 5 Night Shelter.

This years race is raising money in support of the Mayor of Guildford’s Local Support Fund. The fund helps residents of Guildford Borough who are facing financial difficulties.

Many races are held throughout the morning, including a mascot race which invites participants to dress up and run through the streets baring a frying pan and pancake.

Each race bares it's own prize, with the main attraction being the prize of two tickets to this years Guilfest.

Selling out last year following it's return for the first time in more then a decade, the tickets will bag someone the chance to see this years headliners 'The Jacksons' and 'Razorlight' at the festival held in July.

John Redpath, the general manager of the Charlotte Jubilee Trust who organise the Pancake Race, told us how the event raises money for the local community;

'We're also giving away pancakes throughout the day for people to enjoy for a small donation, and 100% of the money will go to the Mayor of Guildford’s Local Support Fund.'

'All the money from every race entry and all the money we earn on the day will be donated, which is also possible thanks to sponsors who help put the event on...'

The event is self-funded and ran by volunteers both from the local community and from far afield.

For those that want to get involved, registration starts early morning at The Guildhall.

Visitors can expect a fun packed day, with the farmers market still open for those who are visiting to enjoy.
