People across Surrey and East Hampshire are being encouraged by the NHS to share their stance on organ donation with their loved ones.

They say that taking this decision into your own hands will spare families from having to make this choice for you if the time comes.

The NHS are hoping that more people will consider becoming donors this festive season after much consideration and talks with those closest to them.

This comes as more than 6,800 people in the UK are spending Christmas waiting for an organ transplant - 200 of which are children.

We spoke with local NHS organ donation nurse George Brann-Liff.

He told us how he thinks Surrey and East Hampshire residents should look at their organ donation decision: "You have no choice in how you get delivered into this world.

"It's in the hands of other people, but you can actually make a decision in your own end of life and how you go onto help other people with organ donation.

"Why give other people the opportunity to make that decision for you when you can make it yourself?

"Talk to your relatives. Save them a really difficult conversation if they ever have to face myself or my colleagues to talk about the possibility of your organ donation.

"Or alternatively, you can register your decision on the organ donation register."

You can do this by visiting the NHS website.
