Surrey and North East Hampshire residents are being asked to open their gardens to public to raise funds to keep a local charity going.

This ask is coming from Phyllis Tuckwell - a local hospice based in Farnborough.

The organisation currently provide services for free, but need to raise £25,000 pounds a day to do this.

Every day it supports over 250 patients, relatives and carers, but as the NHS/Government usually only covers about 20% of its costs.

Phyllis Tuckwell are therefore asking local people to consider opening their garden gates to friends, family and our local community this spring and summer, with the money raised from this going straight to the charity.

Last year, the Open Gardens event raised £17,000 - a number the charity are hoping to surpass this year.

Jennie Newman from the charity tells us:

"We do have to raise over £25,000 a day and the care we provide to patients and their families are free of charge.

"So its really important that if people do have a garden that they love, or is interesting or unique - we'd love them to get involved.

"Last year we had over 40 gardens that opened for us which raised over £17,000, so this year we are looking to better that in terms of number of gardens and what we raise as well."
