Suman Shrestha has worked at the Frimley Health NHS Foundation Trust for the past 21 years, and received the honour at Windsor Castle from Princess Anne, the Princess Royal on the 1st of March.
Suman has a number of roles alongside his position as a nurse consultant in intensive care at the trust, and as an advanced critical care practitioner, alongside being professional lead for critical care at the Royal College of Nursing, and as a visiting lecturer at a university.
He also had an important role during the pandemic, working both on the frontlines and contributing to the development of national guidelines, policies and strategies, because of his national roles.
"It was one of the happiest days of my life."
"In terms of nursing, I think that nursing is an incredibly versatile and dynamic career. Just reflecting on my own career journey, I never, ever envisaged that I'd be doing this, and receiving MBE, and doing all the things that I'm doing now."
Suman emphasised how brilliant the event was.
"It was an incredible day - quite surreal as a day. Just driving through Windsor castle was just an amazing experience to start off with."
Suman also said that he was delighted to receive the award.
"I was allowed to take my wife, my son and my dad. My dad is an ex-Gurkha, he's a military man... he understands and appreciates these awards and honours very well. So he was very proud... my family were really proud."
"It was one of the happiest days of my life."
