A man who kicked an elderly shopper over apparently 'for fun' in Redhill town centre has been jailed for 3 years.

33 year old Scott McAndrew from Croydon was in the town on the afternoon of 12 October last year when he spotted the victim struggling outside a shop.

He approached the victim from behind and kicked him with such force he smacked face-down onto the concrete.

McAndrew then quickly left the scene leaving other horrified shoppers to call for help.

The victim was taken to hospital by ambulance where it was found he had suffered broken ribs in the attack.

McAndrew pleaded guilty to grievous bodily harm.

Detective Sergeant Lee Marks Said: “Having viewed the CCTV, this was a completely senseless attack. Even in interview McAndrew gave no reason as to why he chose to pick on this person who was clearly much physically weaker than he was. If he did it for his own amusement, I hope he finds going to prison less funny.”
