Man punched and kicked in Godalming attack

He required hospital treatment

Police are appealing for witnesses after a man was assaulted in Godalming in the early hours of Saturday morning (28 August).

Officers were called to the Phillips Memorial Park at around 1:40am following reports a man had been assaulted.

At around 10:30pm on Friday (27 August) a group of people arrived at the Phillips Memorial Cloister where they were seen drinking and playing music.

The victim refused a beer from one of the suspects and around two hours later glass bottles were thrown at the wall above where the victim was sleeping.

The suspect shouted abuse and then walked away. Shortly afterwards the victim encountered the first suspect and another man on Borough Road, where he was punched and kicked.

He was taken to hospital after sustaining injuries, including a fracture to one of his ribs.

The suspects are described as “white and one was wearing a grey Parka coat”.
