A man has been sentenced for rape in Windsor.

Marius Prodan, aged 25, of Duval Place, Bagshot, Surrey, was found guilty by majority jury verdict at Reading Crown Court on Wednesday (11/1) of one count of oral rape.

He was acquitted of one count of sexual assault by touching.

Prodan was sentenced to eight years and four months in prison.

On 23 May 2019, Prodan and the victim left Old Ticket Hall, Windsor and walked off towards the river.

Staff at the venue were concerned for the victim’s welfare so asked CCTV operators to monitor her.

When they walked off CCTV operators phoned the police who conducted an area search and found Prodan and the victim.

The victim appeared unconscious and subsequent tests of her mouth, taken as part of the investigation revealed Prodan’s seminal DNA.

Investigating officer, Detective Constable Gary Holliday based at Maidenhead police station, said:

“I am pleased that after a lengthy investigation, Prodan has been brought to justice.

“I’d like to thank the victim for her support throughout this investigation and her bravery.

“Thames Valley Police will take all reports of sexual assault and rape seriously and will work tirelessly to bring offenders to justice.”
