A man from Northchapel has been sentenced to six years in prison for after a spate of attempted robberies in Haslemere.

Ethan Brown, 21, attacked a teenage boy and his sister on Wey Hill, on the 21st February, before later harassing and attacking another victim, a man in his 60s.

Surrey Police say Brown threatened to kill the two teenagers if they didn’t give him money, only to leave the scene after being challenged by a member of the public.

Less than an hour later, Brown harassed, and demanded money from a man on his way home from the shops, before wrestling the victim to the ground and attempting to strangle him.

The court heard police attended the scene at around 6pm, after a call from a member of the public, to find Brown still pinning the man to the ground.

Investigation Officer PC Connor Gillard said, “Brown targeted random members of the public who were going about their lives and subjected them to entirely unprovoked aggression and fear.”

“I hope that the outcome of this case will reassure residents that we take these offences seriously, and that they will feel safer knowing that Brown is off the streets for a long time.”

Brown was sentenced to six years and six months in prison for attempted robbery at Guildford Crown Court, on Thursday, 6 June.
