A man has been found guilty of the murder of an 88 year old man in Surrey.

Darren John Robert McClean, of Drivers Mead in Lingfield, was found guilty of murder, following the death of 88-year-old Dennis Kellond

Police were called to Dennis’ home address in Godstone on 27 April by South East Coast Ambulance following concerns in relation to a suspicious death.

Following an investigation by Surrey and Sussex Major Crime Team McClean was indentified as a suspect and he was charged on 1 May.

McClean pleaded guilty to manslaughter on the third day of his trial, but this was rejected by the prosecution.

He stole his victim’s mobile phone and used it to call his dealers, paying them £200 in cash.

A pair of golden cufflinks, thought to be an engagement present, were also stolen from the bungalow and a photo of them was found on a mobile belonging to McClean’s partner, although they have never been recovered.

McClean appeared at Guildford Crown Court today (Wednesday 21 October), where a jury found him to be guilty of murder.

He also pleaded guilty to burglary.

He will appear at Guildford Crown Court tomorrow (22 October) to be sentenced.
