Man charged after fatal three-car crash in Cranleigh left woman in her 80s dead
The occupants of a third vehicle were given medical treatment at the scene.
A 33-year-old man has been charged following a fatal collision involving three vehicles in Cranleigh.
James Cooper, of Sparsholt, was charged with causing death by dangerous driving, causing serious injury by dangerous driving, causing death while uninsured or unlicensed, and failing to provide a sample.
He has been remanded in custody and is due to appear at Crawley Magistrates Court today (22nd October).
The charges relate to an incident on Elmbridge Road at around 9.38pm on Saturday 11th October.
Police were called to the scene after a crash involving three vehicles.
Despite the efforts of paramedics, a woman in her 80s who was a passenger in one of the cars was pronounced dead at the scene.
The driver of the same vehicle, a man in his 80s, was taken to hospital with serious injuries and has since been discharged.
The occupants of a third vehicle were given medical treatment at the scene.
Detective Constable Nolan from the Serious Collision Investigation Unit said, “Our thoughts remain with the loved ones of the woman who very sadly lost her life. Her family continues to be supported by specially trained officers at this time.
“I would also like to thank members of the public and our emergency service colleagues who attended the incident to offer support and first aid.”
