A man has been arrested after Surrey Police say two people were deliberately driven at in Leatherhead.

It happened in the early hours of yesterday morning (21 October), with the two pedestrians involved believed to have been injured - but they've not yet been identified.

Officers are now looking for the pedestrians involved 'as a matter of urgency'.

The 18-year-old was taken in by police on suspicion of a number of offences - including attempted GBH, dangerous driving, failing to stop for police, failing to report an injury collision, no insurance and being unfit to drive through drink/drugs.

He remains in custody.

The incident followed what Surrey Police have called a 'verbal altercation' on the forecourt of a petrol station at around 2.30am.

Sergeant Faye Burgess, investigating the incident, said: “We are carrying out a number of enquiries to identify the people involved in the incident as it is believed they may have been injured.

“We would also like to speak to anyone who saw what happened or can provide any other information as this will help us to establish what happened. It is understood there was a verbal altercation prior to the incident.

“There will be an increased police presence in the area over the next day or two, so if you have any concerns, I encourage you to speak to one of our officers directly.”
