A man who walked into a Farnborough betting shop and asked for a job before threatening staff with a machete has been jailed for 4 years.

40 year old Daniel Ashok Calisse of Peel Court in Farnborough, went into the Coral shop on Camp Road at around 8.45pm on the 8th of August.

Calisse approached the counter and asked about getting a job at the store. He then brandished a machete and demanded money from the till. He left the store with £79.30.

He pleaded guilty to robbery and possession of a bladed article in a public place.

Winchester Crown Court heard that just days before the Coral incident, Calisse had entered the Betfred shop on Peabody Road, Farnborough, on 27 July and stole £30 from the till. He later pleaded guilty to burglary other than dwelling.

Calisse was jailed for 44 months for the Coral robbery and four months for the Betfred burglary.

Speaking after he was jailed for a total of four years, Detective Sergeant Sol Koranteng described the robbery as a ‘terrifying incident’.

He said: “This was a terrifying incident for the victim, who should have been able to feel safe at his place of work.

“Calisse was armed with a large machete and his actions that night were reckless and incredibly dangerous.

“Robbery is a serious offence and we know the impact it can have. Calisse left that shop with just £79.30 but his actions will have a long-lasting effect on the victim.

“I would like to thank the victim for his support throughout this investigation and I hope he is able to move forward with his life knowing that Calisse is behind bars for what he did.

“I hope this result highlights that we take all reports of knife incidents extremely seriously and that our officers will not stop until those responsible face justice.”
