The RSPCA is appealing for information after four lurcher puppies were dumped in a plastic bag by a Surrey river.

A passerby found the dogs and handed them into a vet in Leatherhead last Thursday (3 June).

The puppies, two girls and two boys, are now being cared for by RSPCA Millbrook Animal Centre in Chobham.

Animal Rescue Officer (ARO) Chloe Wilson said:

“We believe these poor pups were abandoned in a bag by the river. They are suffering from mange which means they are very itchy and have quite severe fur loss.

"These dogs needed urgent veterinary attention but it would appear as though they have callously been abandoned instead.

“If anyone has any information about how these puppies came to be abandoned, or if anyone recognises them, please contact our inspectorate appeal line on 0300 123 8018.”

The puppies have been named Norma, Jean, Bradley and Cooper.

They will be re-homed once they are healthy and ready.
