A team at the Royal Surrey County Hospital will be out and about on Friday 16 June in a van, providing liver health screenings.

The van will be at Manor Fruit Farm in Normandy, and it is set up to allow staff to offer a non-invasive test to people who might be at an increased risk of liver disease. The van will be at Manor Fruit Farm from 8am to 1pm.

The test looks for any inflammation or scarring of the liver and is completely painless.

The hospital are encouraging people between the ages of 35 and 70 with one or more of the eligibility criteria to visit the fan. The criteria includes a past or current history of blood borne viruses such Hepatitis B or Hepatitis C, being diabetic or pre-diabetic, having a known or suspected fatty liver, being overweight or having over 14 units of alcohol a week.

Sandra Hobbs is a liver health checks nurse at the Royal Surrey. She said that it's crucial to get the liver checked.

"We know that very few people will be aware that there's a problem with their liver until they get really sick. People can develop quite advanced liver disease or liver cancer without knowing there's a problem."
