Liphook woman to row 8,000 miles across Pacific Ocean non-stop
27-year-old Jess Rowe and crewmates Miriam Payne and Lottie Hopkinson-Woolley will break three world records on completion
A woman from Liphook could break three world records next year - as she crews with two others to row 8,000 miles non-stop across the Pacific Ocean.
27-year-old Jess Rowe will join Miriam Payne and Lottie Hopkinson-Woolley (both 24) to take on 30 foot waves and up to six months at sea - to raise funds for the Outward Bound Trust; A charity which gives outdoor opportunities to children from disadvantaged backgrounds.
The crew will travel from Peru to Australia - with everything they need for the entire journey on board.
The records they would break upon completion are; The youngest team to row the full Pacific Ocean; The first team to row the full Pacific Ocean nonstop and unsupported and; The first trio to row the full Pacific Ocean.
Jess told us she previous rowed the Atlantic - and can't wait to get back on the ocean:
"I find it really peaceful - actually - being at sea. Obviously not when it's crazy, stormy.
"But I think it's it's going to be a lot harder than the last one with it being such a long row.
"And our day-to-day routine is probably going to be two hours rowing, two hours off, day and night.
"Potentially three hours on, three hours off, we'll have a few different variations of routine, but we've got two rowing seats, so two people on the oars at all times if possible.
"Then the two hours off is sort of spent eating, trying to get in your 5,000 calories a day, cleaning yourself to avoid salt sores.
"And trying to get at least an hour and a half nap in in those short shifts. Sadly, we're probably not going to have very long periods of sleep."
Team 'Seas the Day' are set to take off in April 2025.
