Police helicopter called out to deal with disturbance in Sunbury
It's after reports of chaos on the M3
Surrey Police deployed a helicopter and a large number of officers to Sunbury following reports of a disturbance on the M3.
It's understood motorcyclists were riding up the wrong way on the A316 and the M3 slip road, running red lights and driving onto pavements on Sunday afternoon (28 July).
There were also reports of a firework being let off at the Travelodge car park at Sunbury Cross and two men were taken to hospital with injuries to their hands.
Detective Chief Superintendent Chris Raymer from Surrey Police said: “We have had a large number of officers out this afternoon dealing with the reports of disorder and dangerous driving in the area around #Sunbury Cross and the A316.
"Our priority will always be to keep people safe, and the decision was taken to close the roads in the vicinity to ensure the safety of members of the public who were in the area at the time, as well as the safety of the motorcyclists involved.
“We would like to thank local residents, and those disrupted by this afternoon’s events, for their patience while we dealt with the incident.
“An investigation into the disorder, and identifying those involved, is now underway and we will do everything we can to ensure those responsible are brought to justice.
“As we continue our enquiries, we are appealing to anyone who was in the area at the time with any information which could assist us, particularly anyone with CCTV or dashcam footage, to come forward as a matter of urgency.”
