Large fire breaks out on Hankley Common

A large fire has broken out on Hankley Common this afternoon (12 April).

Surrey Fire and Rescue Service say that 13 vehicles have been sent to the scene where two hectares of undergrowth is 'well alight'.

People are being warned to avoid the area.

Fire crews were called out a 2:59pm to tackle the vegetation fire.

They are also being assisted by the Ministry of Defence and Hampshire Fire and Rescue.

Surrey Police have also reiterated the message that people should stay away from Hankley Common after they set up cordons in the area, in a Tweet they said:

"Officers are reporting spectators turning up - putting themselves, and the emergency services, in danger if the fire spreads."
