Lakeview Estate cladding replacement not due for completion for several years
Works are expected to begin in April 2026
Work is progressing on a major cladding and refurbishment project across 14 medium-rise blocks at the Lakeview estate in Woking.
It's hoped the work will improve fire safety, energy efficiency, and the overall standard of 250 homes.
After identifying fire risks with the existing cladding, Woking Borough council is removing and replacing it to ensure residents have safe means of escape in the event of a fire.
The project is being delivered in three phases—phases one and two, which included the removal of cladding under walkways and weatherproofing exposed walls, are now complete.
Phase three, focusing on designing and installing new cladding and wider exterior refurbishment, is underway.
Following detailed surveys after the original cladding was removed, plans now include a full upgrade of each block—potentially featuring new windows and doors.
This comprehensive approach is set to improve the condition, appearance, and energy efficiency of homes, helping to reduce future disruption.
Contractor selection is scheduled for December 2025, and works are expected to begin in April 2026.
Refurbishment will take place in stages and could extend over several years. The council says the order of works for each block will be shared with residents well in advance.
