Jodie Burrage's Wimbledon journey is over after losing to Daria Kasatkina on Centre Court.

Burrage, 24, lost to the 11 seed, and world number 10 Daria Kasatkina.

Burrage failed to win a game in the first set, losing 6-0, but improved in the second set, even breaking Kasatkina's serve early on. However, Kasatkina gained control and ended up winning the second set 6-2.

Burrage won her first match in a grand slam on Monday, beating American Caty McNally.

Born in Kingston, Burrage grew up in Hindhead near Haslemere and is currently British number 2, behind Katie Boulter and ahead of the likes of Emma Raducanu and Heather Watson.

Disappointment for Burrage but plenty of positives

Beating a player of Daria Kasatkina's calibre was always going to be difficult for Jodie Burrage.

Kasatkina is ranked highly and has a proven record at grand slams, particularly Wimbledon and Roland Garros. Her best showing at the All England Club was a run all the way to the quarter final, where she lost to the eventual champion Angelique Kerber.

She's also reached a French Open semi-final, where she lost to Iga ÅšwiÄ…tek.

The match started badly for Jodie Burrage. She struggled to settle on Centre Court and Kasatkina was comfortably in control in the first set.

However, there was a small shift in momentum after Burrage won her first game. She even managed to break Kasatkina's serve, and seemed to play with more confidence.

Kasatkina was then able to re-establish herself to command the rest of the second set, and despite some competitive games - Kasatkina emerged as the deserved winner.

It may have been a loss on the court for Jodie Burrage, but there's plenty to be happy about for the 24 year old.

She's played some excellent tennis in 2023 and it's certainly been a year of progress. Today's match was her first appearance in the second round of any grand slam, and it was an opportunity to play on the coveted centre court.

She has also played well away from the grand slams. She had an impressive run at the Nottingham Open, making it all the way to the final before losing to Katie Boulter.

Jodie Burrage's Wimbledon dream may be over this year, but she departs SW19 with her head held high.
