It follows reports of vehicles left dangerously parked over the bank holiday weekend

Waverley Borough Council say they are working with the National Trust and other authorities to avoid a repeat of issues seen at Frensham Ponds over the bank holiday weekend.

Surrey Police were called to the area on Monday (31 May) after multiple reports of people parking illegally, as demand soared during the hot weather.

The council has urged people to consider visiting other spots instead - and Surrey Police have warned visitors that they face being dealt with by officers if they park illegally.

Waverley Borough councillor Liz Townsend, Portfolio Holder for Economic Development, Parks and Leisure said:

"We are working with our partners at Surrey Police, the National Trust, Surrey County Council and Guildford Parking Enforcement to mitigate the impact of the additional visitors we get at Frensham during warmer weather.

"If the car park is full, the site is full so we would urge people not to visit on warmer days and perhaps visit places closer to home.

"In addition, can I please remind visitors that there are absolutely no bonfires or BBQs allowed on site due to the high risk of wildfires; the recent Heathland fires have shown just how serious it can be when these get out of control."

She said some of the measures already in place are:

Bacon Lane now has double yellow lines and posts on the verges.

Installation of posts around St Mary's Green and the Memorial Green.

No waiting signs in Pond Lane and on the A287 north of the double yellow lines to St Mary's Green and the Memorial Green.

Car park enforcement in operation with extra patrols.

Installation of new, clear information banners on site reminding people about parking, litter disposal and not to use BBQs.

The Council is working with St Mary's School to provide additional parking on the green during school pickup and drop off times.

Implementation of a contactless parking system RINGO to ensure the safety or visitors and rangers. In addition, there is a National Trust operated machine where NT members can get free parking tickets.
