Haslemere coffee shop offers free lunches for children during half term

It comes off the back of Marcus Rashford's End Child Food Poverty campaign.

Scores of councils, cafes, restaurants and others have pledged to make free meals available for school children during half term - for those who need them.

Among them is Oliver's Coffee Shop and Wine Bar in Haslemere which is offering lunches free of charge to children who need them between 2pm and 4pm next week.

It's come off the back of England and Manchester United footballer Marcus Rashford's End Child Food Poverty campaign.

In a post on Facebook Oliver's said:

"We will happily give any child who currently receives free school meals a sandwich, carrot sticks and a drink completely free of charge through half term Monday to Friday between 2pm - 4pm.

"Dont worry mum or dad you can also have a coffee on us.

"Just say "half term" when you order.

"This may be served as a takeaway if we are busy or you prefer not to eat in."

Conservative politicitans earlier this week rejected a motion to extend free school meals in England during the holidays

None of the MPs for Surrey and East Hampshire voted in favour of the extension.

The Big Smoke Brewery Co have also volunteered to help families in need.

They will be donating 1000 free lunches to anyone who needs them.

Collection points will be set up at a number of the company's pubs including the the Flintgate in Weybridge.
