Majority of Hampshire parents get first choice school for reception year children

A majority of parents in Hampshire have been given their first choice school for their children starting reception year in September 2021.
The outcome of applications went out last Friday (16 April).
Hampshire County Council said it had processed more than 21,500 applications for children to start school in reception year (Year R) and to move from infant to their first year of junior education (Year 3).
For Year R applications, over 93% got their preferred choice and over 98% got one of three schools they had applied for.
Of pupils transferring from infant school to junior school (Year 3), just under 98% got a place at their first choice of school and just over 99% received a place at one of their three choices.
The council has advised those who did not get their school choice about their right of appeal and the arrangements for their preferred schools' waiting list.
It says to support social distancing measures, parents of children starting school in Year R in September 2021 are advised to wait to be contacted by the school about how to present their proof of address and child's date of birth, and not to visit the school ahead of this.
