A 15-year old game designer from Hampshire has won an award.

Arlo Freer, from Herriard, a village near Basingstoke, won the Game Making Award for 15-18 year olds, a category in the BAFTA Young Game Designers Competition.

Arlo won the award for his game 'Bird In The Woods', where gamers tackle different puzzles whilst using as few shots as possible from a magic bow.

He used his home in the Hampshire countryside as inspiration for the game's setting.

"The competition has made me want to create more games."

The winning game will be displayed as part of the Science Museum's Power Up Experience in London and Manchester.

Arlo described how he reacted when he found out he'd won.

"It took me completely by surprise, I was in shock - and genuinely I mean this, I've played all the other games and I think they're amazing. Any of them could have won, they're so so good."

He also highlighted that he's not done with designing games.

"I'm excited and also a little bit nervous to have my game in the Power Up Exhibition.

"Overall, the competition has made me want to create more games, I'm already working on my next one. It's just been a massive confidence booster."
