Guildford's Yvonne Arnaud Theatre to receive £460,000 from the government
It is part of the latest round of culture recovery grants
The Yvonne Arnaud Theatre in Guildford is set to receive nearly £460,000 in the latest round of culture recovery grants.
More than 2,700 organisations are benefitting from a share of around £300 million.
Like most theatres the Yvonne Arnaud shut in March 2020 shortly before the first lockdown was announced. It briefly re-opened later that year in the summer and autumn but were forced to close again.
Director Joanna Read said today:
‘We are relieved to have this additional support from the Cultural Recovery Fund to help us reopen and bring live theatre back to Guildford.
“The coming year will continue to be a challenge for the theatre as we rebuild operations and we are very appreciative of those audience members who have stayed with us during this time for their support. We look forward to welcoming everyone back in June with our production of The Hound of the Baskervilles.’
Several other organisations in Surrey and East Hampshire will benefit from the Culture Recovery Fund including the Guildford Shakespeare Company, the Lightbox in Woking,Princes Hall in Aldershot and the Boileroom in Guildford
Culture Secretary, Oliver Dowden, said:
“Our record breaking Culture Recovery Fund has already helped thousands of culture and heritage organisations across the country survive the biggest crisis they've ever faced.
“Now we’re staying by their side as they prepare to welcome the public back through their doors - helping our cultural gems plan for reopening and thrive in the better times ahead.”
