Brenda Edwards to feature in photo exhibit at Guildford cancer centre
The West End star was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2015
West End star Brenda Edwards is featuring in a new photo exhibition in Guildford that hopes to raise awareness of secondary breast cancer.
The Second Chance photography exhibit is launching at the Genesis Care Centre in October as part of its activities to mark Breast Cancer Awareness Month.
Photographs of breast cancer survivors' chests, backs and skin are among those being displayed in the hope of informing people about where cancer cells could spread to following a primary breast cancer diagnosis.
Research from the Genesis Care Centre found 72% of breast cancer survivors do not know where else in the body secondary breast cancer might appear.
57% of people also did not understand what the illness was.
Half of breast cancer survivors also said they were scared at the prospect of another diagnosis.
Edwards: "Alarming" awareness so low
Brenda Edwards - who was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2015 - is among the people featured.
She told Greatest Hits Radio it was "alarming" that 72% of breast cancer survivors were not aware of where else cancer could appear.
Ms Edwards added it is vital for the exhibition to help raise awareness and get people talking about secondary breast cancer.
"Getting a diagnosis of cancer is scary for anybody, and so there are some people who might want to put it off because they're scared of getting another diagnosis."
She also urged woman to get checked if they believe they symptoms, as "early diagnosis can save lives."
"If you have had primary breast cancer, it's even more important that you get to your doctor or GP as soon as you can, and just literally explain everything, so that they can all do all the checks and they can do all the tests."
