Guildford town centre will be lit up tonight (22nd October) as cyclists will cycle through as part of a national campaign.

The Glow bike ride is coming to Guildford with the aim being to improve safety for cyclist, in particular for women at night.

Beth Moore, one of the organisers told us about why it's so important to raise this issue.

"I think about 58% of women who do cycle find that their journeys are limited by safety and it can be anything from the cycling infrastructure, so not feeling safe riding on on the roads and then but also things like poor lighting, so not feeling safe in the dark.

That's why we've of done a glow ride to kind of make ourselves bright and visible and to show people that we're here and that we care and that we would like to cycle more. But sometimes it's the environment that we're in that's really holding us back."

This ride is part of the 'My ride. Our right mass glow rides' night of action.

The ride will be 7km around the town, starting at 19:30 and lasting until around 20:30.

Beth told us what the atmosphere will be like throughout the event.

"It's going to be a party. We're going to be cycling all the way around around a lot of the well-known streets of Guildford, up to the university, through the centre as well.

We're encouraging everybody to dress up in bright, sparkling clothes if they have any, to put lights on their body. We've got a playlist, we've got speakers. It's really going to be a really fun atmosphere."

Beth added that they've made the ride as friendly as it can possibly be, and also asked other road uses to be considerate if they run into the ride.

"As always in Guildford, there are a few hills. You can't completely avoid them, but we'll go really slowly. We'll have lots of stops for for people to, catch up if they're feeling a little bit out of breath.

We'll be taking up the whole width of our side of the road. And so we'll just ask any drivers who come across this as well to just be a little bit patient. We won't be long, we'll keep moving, but please don't try and overtake us because that could be really dangerous."

Beth says anyone interested in taking part should meet at the town bridge at 19:15.
