Guildford council will seek compensation after protected trees cut down
Damaged trees were cut down due to public safety threat
A council leader is promising compensation will be pursued if anyone is found to be responsible for damage to two protected oak trees that have now been cut down.
The leader of Guildford Borough Council, Joss Bigmore, spoke after the trees in Stoke Park were cut down by the council last week because their roots had been damaged.
The local authority came under fire for planning to remove the trees but it insists they were a threat to public safety.
