Waverley residents eligible for funding to help save money on their energy bills are being urged by the borough council to apply - with extra cash being made available.

The 'Green Jump Surrey' initiative is for those on lower incomes to make their homes warmer and cut bills while also improving green credentials.

The money can be used for measures like loft, underfloor and wall insulation, as well as solar hot water systems.

Last year, Waverley Borough Council worked as part of a consortium led by Action Surrey - a domestic energy efficient service - to obtain a government grant for local residents, after ÂŁ6.2m was made available to help 600 Surrey households make their homes more energy efficient.

Now, additional funding for Green Jump Surrey, from central government and Surrey County Council, means the initiative can help another 300 homes, by up to ÂŁ15,000 per eligible owner-occupied household.

Councillor Steve Williams, Waverley Borough Council Portfolio Holder for Environment and Sustainability, said: "As a council working hard to cut back on its own carbon emissions and supporting the move towards a net-zero carbon Waverley by 2030, we encourage residents to make their homes warmer, greener and cheaper to run. I urge Waverley residents to contact Action Surrey to check if they are eligible for funding and take advantage of this opportunity."

You could be eligible if you are living in a hard-to-heat home and are in receipt of an eligible means-tested benefit or have a total gross annual household income of less than ÂŁ30,000. With this additional funding, if you have two or more children or high housing costs, the income eligibility criteria have been extended to allow mortgage costs and number of dependent children to be taken into consideration.

As funding is time limited, contact Action Surrey as soon as possible on 0800 783 2503 or via www.actionsurrey.org/enquiries to find out if you qualify for the support.
