Frimley Park Hospital A&E 'under significant pressure'
The hospital have been dealing with high numbers of people with asthma and hayfever due to the hot weather
Frimley Park Hospital say their A&E department is under significant pressure.
Staff have been dealing with exceptionally high numbers of people attending with respiratory complaints like asthma and hayfever due to the hot weather.
The hospital is asking people to only attend A&E if you have severe difficulty breathing or shortness of breath accompanied by chest tightness, pains spreading to the arms, back, neck and jaw, feeling sick, coughing up blood or swelling in the leg.
You can also consider using alternative NHS services such as your GP, urgent care centre or local pharmacy.
People most at risk of harm from hot weather include older people, the very young and people with pre-existing medical conditions.
During periods of high temperatures there is a risk of developing heat exhaustion and heat stroke. Heatstroke can occur if symptoms of heat exhaustion are left untreated, it can also occur suddenly without warning.
• Keep out of the sun at the hottest time of the day, between 11am and 3pm
• Keep your home cool by closing windows and curtains in rooms that face the sun
• If you do go outside, cover up with suitable clothing such as an appropriate hat and sunglasses, seek shade and apply sunscreen
• Drink plenty of fluids and limit your alcohol intake
Frimley Park Hospital are expecting to remain under significant pressure throughout this week with the junior doctors strike taking place between 7am Wednesday (14 June) and 7am Saturday (17th June).
