Former Surrey headteacher jailed for historic sex offences
The indecent assaults against the same victim took place over four years from 1982
A former headteacher has been sentenced to 28 months behind bars after pleading guilty to seven counts of indecent assault on a child.
Colin Brooks, 77, was sentenced when he appeared at Guildford Crown Court on Monday (17 May).
He had pleaded guilty to the charges at an earlier hearing, which all involved the same victim when she was between the ages of 13 to 17 years old.
The indecent assaults started in 1982 and lasted for four years. During this time, in 1984, Brooks took over as the headteacher at The Grove School in Hindhead. The school later became The Royal Naval School and then The Royal School.
Detective Constable Rachel Moss from Surrey Police said: “Brooks committed the offences while he was in a position of trust and his behaviour is simply reprehensible.
“I hope that this case demonstrates to people who have been sexually abused, no matter how long ago the abuse took place, that your allegation will always be taken seriously, we will always conduct a full and thorough investigation and that you will be given the appropriate support.”
