South Western Railway have said the footbridge at Farnham station will “remain temporarily closed” until repairs have been completed.

It follows an incident at the station on Saturday night (10 October), in which a supermarket delivery van collided with the wall of the steps leading to the bridge.

Nobody was injured in the incident and the operator said there was no damage to the bridge itself.

A spokesperson for South Western Railway said: “We’re working hard to reopen the pedestrian footbridge bridge near Farnham station following a vehicle collision on Saturday evening.

“The incident caused significant damage to the steps and the wall leading to the footbridge along with minor delays to train services.

“After our engineering team examined the footbridge, they concluded that it was unaffected by the incident. However, it will remain temporarily closed until repairs have been completed and it is safe for pedestrians to access.”

In a statement Surrey Police added: “Officers were called to Farnham train station at approximately 10pm on Saturday 10 October, after a supermarket delivery van crashed into a nearby wall.

“No injuries were sustained by the driver or any onlookers. The railway bridge sustained minor structural damage.”
