A flood warning has been issued by the Environment Agency for the Cranleigh area after heavy downpours.

It is for Cranleigh Waters near Cranleigh and Shamley Green including Elmbridge Village in Cranleigh.

The more serious level alert means flooding of roads and farmland is expected and immediate action is required.

It also means property flooding is possible.

The EA says river levels have risen as a result of a period of sustained rainfall overnight.

It says with the forecast for a dry day today and tomorrow, levels are expected to fall slowly.

It is advising people to avoid using low-lying footpaths near local watercourses, and to activate any property flood protection such as flood barriers and air brick covers.

Meanwhile, a lower level flood alert is in place for several other areas meaning flooding of roads and low-lying land is expected.

The areas covered by the EA alerts include:

Chertsey Bourne including Virginia Water, Thorpe Green and Chertsey and the Moat at Thorpe

River Blackwater and Cove Brook including Badshot Lea, Aldershot, Farnborough, Camberley, Sandhurst, Eversley, Bramshill and Swallowfield, and the Cove Brook at Farnborough and Cove.

River Mole and its tributaries from Kinnersley Manor to South Hersham, including Sidlow, Leigh, Betchworth, Brockham, Pixham, Dorking, Mickleham, Leatherhead, Fetcham, Stoke D'Abernon and Cobham.

Tillingbourne including Chilworth and Shalford.

Upper River Wey including Alton, Farnham, Bordon, Frensham, Tilford, Godalming, Guildford and Peasmarsh.
