Surrey Police are continuing to appeal for information as they continue to investigate a murder in New Haw.

Officers were called to reports of a serious assault in Heathervale Way on Monday night (4 October) at around 7:30pm.

A 42 year old man from New Haw was pronounced dead at the scene.

Five men have been arrested on suspicion of murder - they include two 18-year-old men, a 28-year-old man, and a 31-year-old man, all from from New Haw, and a 19-year-old man of no fixed address.

They remain in custody.

Police say they believe the suspects and the victim were known to each other - and there is no threat to the wider public.

They say the victim's family are being supported by specially trained officers and wish for their privacy to be respected.

Officers are still at the scene and a cordon is in place.

Inspector James Wyatt, Borough Commander for Runnymede, said: “We understand that this violent act will have shocked the local community and we would like to reassure residents that we are doing everything possible to establish who is responsible and hold them to account.

“Local residents can expect to see an increased police presence in the area over the next couple of days whilst we carry out our enquiries.

“At this stage of the investigation, we believe that the victim and suspects were known to each other and we don’t believe there to be any risk to the wider public.”
