First sign of new life at Hankley Common following devastating fire
Surrey Fire and Rescue Service have released an image of a green shoot, as a first start of new life at Hankley Common following a devastating wildfire.
Over 50 hectares of land were affected by the fire that lasted for several days, after a major incident was declared on Sunday 24 July with several homes evacuated.
Last week a 'water bomb' was used on the common to douse remaining hotspots in the area.
Following an extremely hot and dry July and with very little rain forecast for August residents are being urged to be extremely cautious when out enjoying Surrey's beauty spots this summer.
Surrey Fire and Rescue say wildfires can start with the smallest spark, spread quickly and have devastating consequences.
They're asking people to not use disposable BBQs, to dispose of any litter properly and to be extra careful when putting out cigarettes.
