Firefighters have been dampening down hotspots as they continue to work at the scene of a big fire near Petersfield.

Crews from across Hampshire have been dealing with flames and smoke coming from three thousand tonnes of scrap metal in Greenway Lane in Buriton since yesterday afternoon.

A speed restriction on a nearby rail line running between Portsmouth and London Waterloo has also been in place.

Earlier a Hampshire & Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson said:

"Relief crews have arrived to take over from the firefighters who were first on the scene. They will work into the night, continuing to tackle the blaze.

"Using onsite machinery, firefighters have been separating the metal to create fire breaks to limit the spread of the blaze.

"Please continue to avoid the area as road closures remain in place."
